Support the York University Strike
Written by Jangali
Sunday, 09 November 2008
JOIN YORK UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS, CAMPUS GROUPS, AND ALLIES THIS MONDAY TO SUPPORT CUPE 3903 STRIKE!

WHAT: Undergraduate Solidarity march & picket
WHEN: Monday, Nov 10 @ 10 am
WHERE: Main Picket - York Blvd & Keele St.

We will be meeting in front of York Boulevard and Keele St
(the main gate and picket-line of York University) at 9 am sharp!

TO UNDERGRADS, CAMPUS GROUPS, AND ALLIES:

A small group of York undergaduate students will be organizing a counter demonstration directed against CUPE 3903 on Monday at 10 am due to what is being percieved as an inconvenience to students expecting to graduate at the end of this academic year.

As a demonstration of solidarity with CUPE 3903 and its strike demands (such as job security and a living wage), a wide array of undergraduate students, campus groups, and allies in the York community are also being asked to join together on Monday in a solidarity march and picket to neutralize any counter demonstration.

We hope that a strong undergraduate presence on Monday morning will help to show the administration (and the media, whose coverage has been quite slanted thus far) that we are behind our TA's and that we support CUPE 3903's labour struggle.

ELIMINATION NOT DISCRIMINATION: FREE EDUCATION FOR ALL
Written by Jangali
Monday, 27 October 2008
The Committee for Just Education calls on all our allies to join us as we walk through the University of Toronto and demand "Free Education for All" as part of the Canadian Federation of Students Day of Action.

****************************
When: Wed. Nov. 5th 10:30 AM
Where: New College Quad (grassy area at the corner of Huron and Wilcox)

****************************

While the university administration is moving towards the "deregulation" of fees and corporatizing our campus, education is becoming even more inaccessible. Post secondary fees are rising to drastic levels and students are leaving the university with unmanageable debt. Meanwhile the administrations are forging stronger links with corporations and are acting in the interest of these businesses rather than in the interest of the student population. At the University of Toronto, this comes at a time when there is a clamp-down on student organizing by way of the freezing of student union funds, the laying of criminal charges against student activists and a host of other repressive tactics to police student dissent. These actions that have been taken by university administrations across the country disproportionately affect those of us who already face marginalization while attending post-secondary education.

It is critical for students and community members to stand up against this corporate takeover of our university and demand that education not be a privilege for a few but accessible to all. The CJE and our allies will march on November 5th to demand that our university be a place that does not discriminate against marginalized groups, but a place where all groups have a right to attend and participate.

The Committee for Just Education Demands:
1. Equal access to education through the elimination of all fees.
2. That the U of T administration and Toronto Police immediately drop all proceedings against students and organizers and stop the policing of dissent on campus.
3. Student, worker, and faculty parity on university decision-making bodies, including the Governing Council.

DERAIL THE SPIRIT OF THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT TRAIN
Written by Jangali
Wednesday, 08 October 2008
On October 13th, 2008 there will be a rally protesting the arrival of the Olympics 2010 Vancouver Spirit Train. We, at AlwaysQuestion, are in full solidarity with the Native peoples struggle against the ongoing colonization and robbery of their lands. The 2010 olympics involve the stealing of large amounts of Native land, along with a series of anti-working class and anti-poor legislation to "clear" the city of undesirables. We firmly oppose the olympics and encourage all those to attend this rally in Mississauga.

Read the callout below for information. There will be a bus leaving from downtown for free.

Students at Richmond Hill High School, Weston Collegiate Institute and Erindale Secondary who are interested in attending should contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it We may be able to provide transportation.

---------------------------------------
On October 13, 2008, the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway)’s ‘Spirit Train’ will be arriving at Cooksville GO Transit Station in Mississauga, here to continue its goal of spreading pre-Olympic “spirit”.

The Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 are appropriating indigenous land, marginalizing the urban poor and exploiting migrant workers.

The 2010 Olympics spirit that this train carries is a spirit of racism and corporate greed. This spirit has met with opposition in each of its stops across the country.

This spirit of oppression needs to be met with our spirit of resistance.

When it stops in Mississauga, come out with pots, pans, whistles, flags and placards. As most of Canada gives thanks for the ongoing genocide of indigenous peoples on Turtle Island, we urge all allies to mobilize their communities to disrupt the Spirit Train in solidarity with the call for Indigenous sovereignty.

Free buses will be leaving Hart House (79 Hart House Circle, University of Toronto) at 12:00 pm on Monday, October 13, returning at 3pm.

To confirm a spot or to share your solidarity, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it before Sunday, 12 October.

NO OLYMPICS ON STOLEN NATIVE LAND!
